"One of my favotite subjects has always been Authurian Literature. I had a great opportunity to include in this painting the metaphors of the Authurian ideals. Each of the three grail maidens represents a different temptation. The bowl is the temptation of indulgence, the sceptre is the temptation of power, and the maiden herself is the temptation of flesh. The grail knight looks away keeping his gaze upon his sword, and the tapestry of Arthur and Guineviere as they bid the knights farewell from Camelot. Meanwhile, the True Grail always lives within the heart of the grail knight."
